MAYOR
The City of Sopchoppy is chartered under the weak mayor/council form of government. We are governed by five council members who are elected for two year terms. Elections are held annually the second Tuesday in June. Council meetings are held 2nd Monday of each month, 6:30 p.m., City Hall Commission Chambers, 105 Municipal Avenue.

Mayor Colleen Q. Skipper, is the 13th Mayor to serve the City of Sopchoppy since it was chartered in 1955. A resident of Sopchoppy since birth, she became the first African American female elected to any office in Wakulla County, when she was elected to her first term on the City Council in 2001. Then in 2010, fellow Council Members gave her the honor and distinction of becoming the first female Mayor of the City. Mayor Skipper currently serves on the Florida League of Cities Inter-Local Relations Committee and is a member of Women Elected to Municipal Government. Prior to becoming Mayor she served her community in many leadership rolls including Secretary/Treasurer of the Coastal Optimist Club, the Apalachee Regional Planning Council and as a mentor for students in both the local middle school and high school.
VISION: As an elected official she understands the effects that government has on the lives of other people and her goal is to promote a better quality of life and community pride.
Goals: Continue to focus on customer service to all citizens daily, enhance high performance in the work place, maintain and improve our city infrastructure; continue to enhance technology and a more positive and safe environment for all citizens. |
