Accomplishments and Service:  Ashley Schilling began her employment with the City of Sopchoppy in 2004 and was appointed in June 2016 to serve as the Clerk of Sopchoppy. Mrs. Schilling has her A.S. in Business Administration/Accounting from St. Petersburg College and has completed the requirements to earn the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Florida Association of City Clerks.  

The City Clerk is appointed by and serves under the direction of the City Council.  The Clerk's office is the oldest profession in municipal government providing an array of services to the public.  This office is dedicated to serving the community in a professional, ethical, impartial and equitable manner.  A Municipal Clerk performs activities prescribed by state and local laws.    

Duties and responsibilities of the clerk include:
  • City Administrator
  • Qualifying officer for candidates who wish to contend for the office of City Council.
  • Records Management and Custodian of all official records in compliance with state law; serves as the City's Records Management Liaison Officer with the State of Florida Department of State.
  • Custodian of the city seal
  • Provides notice of Council Meetings, Attends meetings and prepares minutes of proceedings
  • Prepares and administers the annual budget for the city. Maintains financial records.
  • Human Resource management
  • Grant Administration
  • Administers land development regulations, zoning and comprehensive plan
  • Negotiates Agreements and Contracts on behalf of the City
  • Represents the City on various committees

As Deputy Clerk, Page works closely with the City Clerk and the Public Works Director in all areas. 

Duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Clerk include:
  • Supervisor of Utility billing department and staff
  • Accounts payable
  • Preparation of County and State Tax reports and payment
  • Reconciliation of utility software and account software integration
  • Preparation of sewer reports and payments
  • Preparation of monthly state water reports and consumptive use reports
  • IT liaison
  • Preparing reports for the City Council
